Homework 2/3

Homework 2/3

  1. Carol Dweck’s Ted Talk called “The Power of Yet” is about the “Power of Yet” or of a growth mindset is the belief that you can improve. If you do not (yet) know how to code or how to navigate the command line, you can learn. The great news for all of us too is that “mindsets can be taught, they are malleable”.
  2. Lukianoff and Haidt’s “The Coddiling of the American Mind” article is about Lukianoff and Haidt arguing that overprotection is having a negative effect on university students and that the use of trigger warnings and safe spaces does more harm than good.
  3. I think that it is important to consider growth mindset in higher education because teachers and students should be warned there could be someone in their class who has experienced a past trauma that could set off a trigger. I feel trigger warnings should be used because there could be a student or students in the class that could be effected by the topic, if not warned or sat down to tell the class ahead of time. That this is what we are doing in the future, so I’m mentally preparing you so you aren’t surprised about the topic. If they are surprised with the certain topic the student could shut down and refuse to listen or engage in the class about the topic (dweck fixed mindset) For students with no past trauma.
