- In Dweck’s Ted Talk “The power of yet” her mindset ideas relate to “The Coddling” by Lukianoff and Haidt, because Dweck, Lukianoff and Haidt all talk about fixed and growth mindsets. For example, Dweck brings up “Just the words yet or not yet we’re finding these give kids greater confidence, gives them a path into the future that creates greater persistence.” Then Lukianoff and Haidt bring up “The idea that words (or smells or any sensory input) can trigger searing memories of past trauma—and intense fear that it may be repeated—has been around at least since World War I, when psychiatrists began treating soldiers for what is now called post-traumatic stress disorder.” The reason I bring all of this up is because Lukianoff and Haidt don’t believe in a growth mindset and are against it. I believe having a growth mindset is so important it’s so students can grow as a student.
